The Victory at Melserne, Second Era, Year 145
Basic information:
-Numbers for both side
The Einheldren: 3,500
The Northland Rebellion: 8,000
-Losses
The Einheldren: 2,300
The Northland Rebellion: 1,500
Battle overview:
"The first victory of the Northland Rebellion came at the battle of Melserne. In secret, the humans, dwarves, and halflings of the city gathered together, arming themselves over many months, mostly by stealing from the storehouses of the Einheldren in the dead of night. Emblazoning themselves with the Red Hand, a symbol of freedom decades old, they took to the streets on the fourth of Willowind, cutting down any that stood in their way as they cut a bloody path through the city in order to reach the Citadel, which was home to the governor of the town. Hundreds of Einheldren lay dead in the streets by the time the Northland soldiers reached the gates of the Citadel.
It was here that the great drow warlock Talaer Maeriyn made his face known, when the straits seemed their most dire. He summoned a terrifying spell that wrenched the skulls from the dead and dying, emblazoning them with a fel-fire, and sending them careening through the air as they latched onto their intended targets and burst into flame. He was, after a long duel, brought down by Bregoland and Alpern, a halfling and a human respectively, but the pair gave their lives in the process.
In the end, Melserne was a great victory for the Northland Rebellion, as they took the city for their own, and forced the hand of the Einheldren, making them reveal the power of their drow magicians."
