The Great Siege of Talaverne, Second Age Year 116
Basic information:
-Numbers for both side
The Einheldren: 160,000
The Human Alliance: 120,000
-Losses
The Einheldren: Estimated between 60-70,000
The Human Alliance: 65,000 dead, 30,000 captured.
Battle Overview:
"The last of the Great Battles of Free Alscium, the siege of Talaverne saw the destruction and enslavement of the last of the great human settlements on the shores of Alscium. Talavarne had been, since the landing of men, their great capitol. A city of size and business to rival even the greatest of the Einheldren. Of course, the elves could not allow this to persist. They launched a campaign against the forces of men that would become one of the longest, bloodiest campaigns in Alscium's history. The final battle came here, to the walls of Talaverne.
Beginning on third day of Sweetrain, the battle lasted well into the third week of Longrass. The siege was hard-fought and brutally uncompromising. For nearly three weeks, Einheldren siege engines buffeted the walls of Talaverne, setting much of the lower city alight. The humans were not defenseless, though, their own trebuchets hurling missiles right back at their elvish attackers. However, it was all for naught. On the thirteenth day of Longrass, in the year 116, the siege towers of the Einheldren began their slow, creeping advance towards the walls of Talavarne. The defenders, haggard, exhausted, and malnourished, readied themselves for the conflict, but knew that it would take a miracle, or an act of the Gods, to save them.
Neither came. The Einheldren siege towers came to the walls, and moments later the city ran with the blood of men. The city's last line of defense had fallen, and her king was slain in his own throne room, his body paraded through the streets to the cheers and laughter of the Einheldren. This was the fall of the Kingdom of Men, and the rise of the Dominion of the Einheldren."
