The Battle of The Gladden Hills, Second Age 180.
Basic information:
-Numbers for both side
The Einheldren: 250,000
The Northland Rebellion: 130,000
-Losses
The Einheldren: 120,000
The Northland Rebellion: 90,000
Battle Overview:
"The final battle in the saga of the Northland Rebellion, and the most devastating for both sides without question, Gladden Hills was the horrific end to a horrific war, seeing the death of over two-hundred thousand beings. The Einheldren, with a massive army that some estimate to be well over three-hundred thousand, marched north to the city of Ayrine, believing the Northland Rebellion to have made their final preparations in that city. However, they were ambushed by a full army of the Rebellion on the slopes of the Gladden Hills, a series of steep hills that run through the north of Alscium.
These hills were, given the month, coated in snow, and soon blood and mud began to mix with it. Raining arrows down upon their attackers, the Rebellion thinned the numbers of the Einheldren by a massive amount before the battle even started. Seeing the chaos all around him, High-Lord Arthamir Dawnstrider set his sword ablaze with magic, leading a charge up the slope of the hill towards the army of that waited above them. He was struck, in legend, six times by arrows, but did not stop until his blade cleaved through the first man in the battle line.
Once battle was joined, it was a violent, bloody affair, and neither side gained any true advantage until late in the day, when the superior numbers of the Einheldren showed their strength. The elves, able to keep their front ranks fresh from their reserves, pressed their advantage, slowly making progress through the Northland resistance. Finally, after hours upon hours of brutal combat, the lines broke, and the Northland Rebellion broke with it. Men scattered from the field, and the Einheldren had their victory."
